PROJECT CENTER
BUNGALOW LODGE
This Fern Valley cabin was built in 1957. The original exterior had a sort of alpine chalet/half log design and was very weathered and run down. The front and rear decking had significant deterioration and were unusable.
BEFORE
AFTER

All of the exterior siding was replaced and the house was rewired and fully insulated. All new dual pane windows and exterior doors were added. A new cement porch and rock & brick pillars were added, changing the overall design to a California bungalow style.
The small rear deck was removed and a new redwood deck was installed. The new deck takes advantage of beautiful views of Lily Rock and Tahquitz Peak.
Red oak hardwood floors were added. Ceiling areas that were below attic storage were opened up in an open beam style.
A dining nook with built-in seating was added in the kitchen area. The existing pine kitchen cabinets were retained and additional cabinets were added along with new tile counters and natural Marmoleum flooring.
The enlarged kitchen now has a dishwasher and classic O'Keefe & Merritt range. The pine cabinets alongside and above the range are new, built to match the existing cabinetry.

The upstairs was accessed by a very steep stairway. A new stairway off the entry, allows a more comfortable access and is an interesting focal point for the living room.

This room had been a very small bedroom with a low ceiling. The ceiling was opened up and various wood accents were added. It is now a cozy reading area with views out the front.
The existing bathroom had fake metal/aluminum tile on the wall and a formica countertop. Period style blue and lavender ceramic tile was used to create the look and feel of a bungalow bathroom from an earlier time.
